2. How We Collect Information

  • Consent-Gated Collection: Before any personal data is collected, you must review our Data Disclosure and explicitly tap "Consent." All data collection is gated by this consent. No SMS, call log, location, or screen time data is collected until consent is granted.
  • Periodic Sync: Once consent is granted, the App syncs data to our servers approximately every 15 minutes via Android WorkManager.
  • Background Collection: The App operates a foreground service that continues to collect and transmit data even when the App is not actively open. The App also resumes data collection after device reboot.
  • Push-Triggered Sync: Our servers may trigger an immediate data sync via push notification.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Parental Monitoring: To provide parents with visibility into their child's device usage, communications, location, and app activity through the CleanPhone parent portal.
  • Device Management: To enroll and manage the device under the CleanPhone MDM system, including linking the device to a parent account.
  • App Functionality: To authenticate the device with our servers, maintain secure communication, and deliver push notifications.
  • Service Improvement: To diagnose crashes, improve app stability, and enhance the overall service.

We do not use the collected data for advertising, marketing to children, or selling data to third parties.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • All data is transmitted to our servers over HTTPS (encrypted in transit).
  • Data is sent to our backend API hosted at our secure servers.
  • Authentication tokens (JWT) are stored locally on the device in SharedPreferences.
  • We implement reasonable security measures to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.
  • Data is stored in our PostgreSQL database with soft-delete practices and UTC timestamps.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With Parents/Guardians: The primary purpose of the App is to share device activity data with the parent or guardian who enrolled the device.
  • Service Providers: We use the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:
    • Google Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) - for crash reporting, analytics, and push notifications
